Meet Robyn Prince Sutcliff

About Me

My name is Robyn Prince Sutcliff.   I am 48 years old and a lifelong Kendall County resident.  I grew up in Oswego , and I graduated from University of Wisconsin-Stout with a Bachelors degree from University of Wisconsin , Stout, in Merchandise Management/Business Administration. I am also a Licensed Real Estate Appraiser.  I have lived in Yorkville for 16 years, with my husband and two children.  My daughter is a sophomore at Yorkville High School and my son is a freshman at the University of Illinois .

If you have met me, or seen my picture, you may have noticed something odd about my smile.  Frankly, it’s crooked.  I have often had people speculate about the cause.  When I was 24, I was diagnosed with a tumor on my hearing nerve. Through many operations and complications it was removed, but it has left me with permanent hearing and vision loss on my left side, along with facial paralysis on the left side of my face, and some difficulties with balance.  My condition has not stopped me from accomplishing anything in my life. I have worked hard to overcome all of these challenges and continue to strive to be the best I can be.  Overcoming adversity is part of my background.

My Work Experience

I was an Office Manager/Bookkeeper for an independent builder for 13 years. I worked to get my Real Estate Appraiser license and worked as an Appraiser for four years. Currently I am a substitute teacher for the Kendall County Education Cooperative and the Alderman of the City of Yorkville ’s 3rd ward.

I am an Illinois Women's Institute for Leadership (IWIL) graduate. This organization, headed by Loretta Durbin, the wife of Illinois Senator Richard Durbin, provides extensive training in the skills of campaigning for public office, public speaking, and fundraising. While attending this training I also had the opportunity to network with many people in local, state and federal leadership positions.

As an Alderman

I was elected to the office of Alderman in 2007. This is my first elected position. I ran for Alderman because I felt that Yorkville needed to head in a new direction.   I decided to try to do something about it by running for office and becoming part of the solution.

Since I have been an Alderman, I have accomplished many things that I am proud of.  Most times, being an Alderman means helping a resident with a problem.  This may not be noticed by the general public, but it is important for the residents.  I feel a great sense of accomplishment in being able to help.

I have traveled to Springfield on several occasions both with and without the Mayors of Yorkville and Montgomery.  I met with the head of IDOT (Illinois Dept of Transportation), the Governor’s office, IDNR (Illinois Dept of Natural Resources) and Senator Durbin’s office. My intent during these meetings was to bring the needs of Yorkville to the forefront.  I believe all of our levels of government should work together.

What I want for Yorkville and Kendall County … It’s Simple

Over the past few years, Kendall County has grown substantially and recently it was the fastest growing county in the country. This growth has left Kendall County with many difficult decisions that need to be addressed in the areas of infrastructure and job creation.  The number one thing I want for Yorkville and Kendall County is a quality, planned, sustainable growth. Growth and change are inevitable. I want to make sure we bring an enhanced quality of life to those who live here.  The ultimate goal is having a home town and county that we can all be proud of - one where people want to visit, and live.

It is a simple goal, but it is a complicated road. I want to work with the members of the Kendall County Board to achieve this lofty goal, and all of the smaller goals, that will get us there.

I ask for your support in my run for a seat on the Kendall County Board in District 1. I have a proven track record of responsible public service and I will work hard for the residents of Kendall County . My experience in city government, IWIL training, and contacts with other local and statewide leaders, make me a highly qualified candidate to fill this position.
